Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.” Mathew 4:4
Have you ever been hungry? Not hungry for a snack such as a “Big Mac” or a “Double cheeseburger” from McDonald’s. I mean ravenous! Three days without food and so hungry that you can barely think of anything else. Nothing can satisfy or a person that has not eaten in forty days, but food.
Could you imagine how Jesus was feeling after fasting for 40 days? Think about it, being up on a mountain for so long, and then He reaches the 40th day. He was thirsty, a little confused, (as we all are when we have not eaten for just 10 hours) and focused-on removing himself from that mountain. Then suddenly the devil shows up and wants to hold a conversation. The last thing Jesus wants to do is to talk with the devil. He realizes that this was so bazaar that it must be another test so Jesus engages in conversation with Lucifer. Sometimes you need to stop what you are doing and deal with the devil that is speaking in your ear.
Similar circumstances happen when we want to follow Jesus’ teachings. We strive to resist our fleshly urges and to train ourselves by fasting and prayer. We separate ourselves from the world and its sinful desires and devote our time and focus on God. We conclude with the idea that whatever we did (because we are not all the time successful.) was good. We know that every obstacle we are confronted with is a test and the battle has just begun. We now must go into warfare against Satan and his demons attacking our life, our family, and the country we live in. It takes all our effort to keep what we have gained through our fasting.
“But the Bible says,” The race is not given to the swift, nor the strong but them that endure to the end.” We are soldiers of the Lord. We are in a constant battle, and we can never relax.” Our battle is against the dark forces of this world, that come to oppress, depress, and defeat us. Jesus overcame the world, and Satan’s forces, and according to the scripture we are more than conquerors, through Jesus Christ our Lord. We do not have to become slaves to our sins. We can be an overcomer.
While Jesus was on earth, he ate bread as we do. But he was also “The Bread.’ Jesus said, “I am the bread of life.” Spiritual food that is sustaining, filling. We will always be hungry in the natural, but the spiritual hunger which comes from being separated from God can be satisfied. “For the bread of God is He who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.” John 6:33 NKJV
Stand fast and put on strength. The strength of God is durable, and we can overcome all of Satan’s wicked devices. We must believe and proclaim that Jesus is Lord. If we ask Jesus to give us the,” Bread of Life”, He will, and we can become what He says. A Conqueror.
