But Sin is a Reproach to any People.” Psalm 14:34

St. Mary of Zion Church in Ethiopia

If there were ever a time that as a nation we need to understand this word-it is now. Our country is at a turning point. Politics, power, and oppression have become its primary focus- once again. But the solution to the problems we face as a country lies in this scripture. Righteousness will elevate a nation, while sin disgraces any people.

A righteous nation will illuminate the world around it. It will prosper, be healthy, and seek peace throughout the world. However, sin will cause the light it once had, to dim. Those who once sought counsel from its leaders, now, seek counsel elsewhere- shaking their heads in unbelief. They laugh at our meager attempt to call out other nations to seek peace and justice, while murder, hatred, and indifference to jobless citizens, is right at our backdoor. All while lawmakers support injustice, racism, and oppression right in the very halls of our government. Our sinful ways have not only threatened our democracy but our morality as well!

It is time for America to repent. There is a remarkably simple explanation for all the bad that is happening in this country. To suppose that any race is “superior’ to another is senseless. The Bible says “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Rom 3:23. But, to believe that there is no need for God to straighten out our mess, has produced a feeble and frail country, and an open door for our enemies to attack. Our refusal to pray to God and repent for our sins as both an individual and as a nation is leading us down a path of destruction.

Psalm 51:1 says, “Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion, blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. All that has separated us from following the Word of God, can be restored through our repentance. The Holy Spirit will bring us back in alignment with the Word of God. It is easy to go down the road everyone else is going, but it takes God to lead us down the path of righteousness.
